Tax Assistance and Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) Program

At Tri-County, we have IRS Certified tax preparers on hand to help prepare your taxes and submit them on time. Tax preparers help to identify tax credits, such as through the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) Program, a federal program that provides tax credits to working individuals and families that meet income eligibility. The EITC Program provides no-cost tax preparation assistance and electronic filing of state and federal income tax returns.

For more information on the EITC program, or to see if you qualify for tax assistance, contact us at

Homeless Prevention Program (HPP)

Funded through the RI Consolidated Homeless Fund, this program provides case management, housing information, and resources to assist clients who are in danger of becoming homeless.  Case managers work with clients to identify and eliminate housing barriers, increase income, or decrease expenses in an effort to maintain a sustainable income-to-rent ratio (generally 30-35% of household income).  A small amount of funding is available to assist with security deposits or rent, but these payments can only be offered if the payment leads to sustainability or if a solid sustainability housing plan is in place. There is no funding available for long term, multi-month rental subsidies. Mortgage payments and hotel/motel payments are also ineligible expenses.

The program is offered to all RI residents. Income and other eligibility requirements apply. Housing Navigators are available at the following Tri-County locations:

19 Volturno Street, North Providence

1126 Hartford Avenue, Johnston

1935 Kingstown Road, Wakefield

34 Pond Street, Westerly
